We are well underway with our first science unit of the year - Waste and Our World! This year we will be focusing on the grade 4 curriculum for science. Throughout this unit, students will be exploring the following questions:
The grade 3/4 class will also develop and implement a plan to reduce waste, and monitor what happens over a period of time.
Following are the learning outcomes for this unit:
- What is waste?
- Where does waste come from?
- Who creates waste?
- How does our community deal with waste?
- How is waste managed in nature?
- What can we do to reduce waste in our community?
The grade 3/4 class will also develop and implement a plan to reduce waste, and monitor what happens over a period of time.
Following are the learning outcomes for this unit:
- I can identify plant and animal wastes, and describe how they are recycled in nature.
- I can identify and classify wastes that result from human activity.
- I can determine types of waste that are biodegradable, and those that are not.
- I can identify methods of waste disposal used in my community.
- I can identify actions that people can take to reduce, reuse and recycle wastes.
- I can identify ways that people can safely handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
- I can develop and put into place a plan to reduce waste, and monitor what happens over a period of time.
