Building with a Variety of Materials & Testing Materials and Designs
2014 Bridge Challenge!
At the beginning of our unit, we watched a short video about children in Columbia and the dangerous zip line they were using to cross a valley to get to school. Follow the link below to watch this short video!
We decided that we needed to build a safe bridge for these children! Throughout our unit, the grade 3/4s worked hard to learn as much as possible about building strong and sturdy structures. At the end of our unit, we spent an entire morning celebrating our learning! Students formed four construction companies and spent the morning planning, designing and constructing a bridge. We created criteria to follow and students were even in charge of organizing a budget for their building supplies! Each group had a camera to document the morning through pictures and videos. Following our challenge, each group created an awesome iMovie to share their learning!
